The Internet of Things

It’s a world of information! However most of us dealing with large amounts of information have realised. Information becomes power only when it’s available at right time, place and format such that it enables us to use it for work. Information is being generated by a large number of objects we use like smart phones, computers, home weather stations monitoring temperature and humidity conditions, security systems etc. However this information is not in a format that enables us to monitor or influence our environment. How about if you could monitor the temperature and humidity conditions in your favourite green house any time any place. With a simple internet command you could open the exhaust fans so that your favourite plants don’t get cooked! And hope you remember the well known example of the internet fridge that detects the quantities of food left and updates your shopping list as per your diet plan. An interesting development in this area of  ‘ Internet of Things’ is the new UK startup business called Pachube, (pronounced “PATCH-bay”) that lets you tag and share real time sensor data from objects, devices, buildings and environments both physical and virtual. Check out the website and post some feeds
