Thermal Imaging

Thermal Imaging or Thermography is a type of Infrared Imaging in which IR cameras detect radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths from roughly 900 to 14,000 nanometers. Typically, this imaging is used to measure temperature variations across an object or scene, which can be expressed as Celsius or Fahrenheit.

In simple terms one can think of thermography as “how hot” an object is, whereas radiometry is ” how much energy” the objects are giving off. Actually modern cameras convert radiation values to temperature for the user. The radiation effecting the measurements is directly emitted by object, reflected by surroundings, and effect of atmosphere.

Thermography has extensive use in defense, medical and even building industry. However most of all the images are beautiful and revealing. I have been exploring thermography over the last year and have recently been playing with a FLIRT640 series infrared camera. Sharing some results from the camera.
